2008 Fall Programs

We offer grief support groups for ages 6-18, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings. Most evening groups begin with a Pot Luck dinner at 6:30-6:50 p.m. Group begins at 7pm and ends at 8 pm. Each family must attend an orientation tour of the CBCST before joining the group program. Families are invited to call and make an appointment, Monday through Friday from 9-5pm. If the family and interviewing counselor feel that our program will be of benefit, the child/teen is placed on a program night based on the type of death he or she has experienced. All parents and guardians may attend a concurrent support group which focuses on the grief needs of their child/teen.

Our Little People Program is for ages 3-5 and is held Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:00 pm.

Our young adult group for ages 18-24 meets on alternate Thursdays from 7:00-8:00 pm.

Each program begins with an Opening circle consisting of children and teens grouped with others their own age. During this time, new members are introduced, house rules are reviewed and the healing benefits are group participation are experienced.

The following is a sample of a schedule for a program night:

  • 6:30 – 6:50 Potluck Dinner for families, volunteers and staff members to share.
  • 7:00 – 8:00 Groups Meet

Group activities help children and teens express and process feelings in an environment that is both structured and supportive. In addition to group work, each child is evaluated regularly by a member of our professional team.

All of our groups are staffed by volunteer facilitators and professional counselors from the CBCST. Each volunteer facilitator participates in a 17 hour training program and commits to serve the center for six months to one year. Volunteers are vital to the functioning of the CBCST.
